What’s on My Mind...

Sunday, March 4, 2007

Well, I’m recovering from last night, where I participated in a great fund raiser here in Idaho Falls.  I was fortunate to be a co-MC for the yearly Jump, Jive and Wail 2 fundraiser for the YMCA.  My co-host was an amazing DJ from a competitor station (he won’t get any advertisement from me....:) We had a great time and it looks like this fundraiser will take place every year.  I hope, if you live in the area, you’ll consider attending next year. But, back to my thoughts...

I am continuously astounded by the generosity of people in this community. There are many good causes in the area and regardless of which one I work with, the goodness of people is always evident. It affirms my belief that people, when offered the opportunity to good, will almost always rise to the occasion. I’m glad that that belief hasn’t been disproved yet!

Additionally, I’ve been on a bit of a sabbatical from singing with the Jazz House Big Band, but it ended last night and I am glad to say that I’ll be singing with them again, as I realized how much I’ve missed and needed the thrill of performing with a large group of talented musicians. I think I tend to forget that I am not the only musician in the world and there is joy to be had when you make music with a group of people. So I guess you should keep checking the calendar for more dates where you can catch me singing with the band!

What is she listening to today?

I recently downloaded (legally, of course) a release by an English band named Keane, entitled “Hopes and Fears”.

I had heard one of the songs in a 1st season Grey’s Anatomy episode that I loved, but I was bored with what I had on my iPod, so I read the reviews and decided to download the album. Best decision I made all week. This music is fabulous.  It is a cross between the Pet Shop Boys, ELO and Cold Play. If you are into this type of music, which I consider to be a cross between Pop and Alternative Rock, then I suggest you at least listen to some samples on iTunes. If it makes you feel good, like it does me...then it’s been a good day of dowloading!

Other suggestions:

“Movin’ On” -Elliot Yamin

This is a pre-release single and great song from a 5th season American Idol Finalist....a throwback to the days when R&B was smooth and delicious ear candy!

“Candyman” - C. Aguilera

Despite some “questionable” lyrics, this song is reminiscent of “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and again highlights Christina Aguilera’s amazing talent.

“The Mating Game” - Bitter:Sweet

This is a great song that I discovered on a 2nd season Greys’ Anatomy, but has been showing up on several commercials for other shows and various places.  Catchy hook and subtly sexy vocals make for great music for dancing by yourself or cleaning house...or whatever!
